How to use the Reel Frame to Pin

    1. 1

      Open the video file

Choose an MP4, WebM or MOV file saved on your device. Any video your browser can play will work, from Reels and Shorts to TikToks.

    2. 2

      Grab your frames

Drag the slider or use the step buttons to find a sharp moment, then click Grab this frame. Repeat for up to six frames.

    3. 3

      Make the pin

Choose a single frame or a collage, add a title and your handle, and download the 1000 × 1500 PNG named after the title.

A short video often has one frame that tells the whole story: the finished dish, the before and after, the moment of the reveal. Pinterest rewards that kind of clear image, and a still pin that links to your video or blog post can keep bringing viewers for months after the Reel itself stops getting views. Grabbing the exact frame by pausing and taking screenshots is slow and leaves player buttons in the picture.

Open the video file here and it plays in your browser. Scrub with the slider or step frame by frame, grab up to six clean frames at full resolution, then turn one into a pin with a title or arrange several into a collage. The video is read straight from your device and is never uploaded, so this works with drafts you have not posted yet.

Picking frames that work as pins

Fast motion blurs, so step frame by frame around the moment you want and pick the sharpest one. Frames where the subject is still, such as the finished result or a held pose, look best at pin size. Avoid frames with on screen captions from the editing app, because they compete with the pin title.

A collage works well for steps or transformations: grab the start, a middle step and the result, and the pin shows the whole video in one image. A single frame with a strong title suits recipes, outfits and product reveals.

Why this runs on your device

The file is opened with your browser's own video player, and frames are copied from it into a canvas on the page. No upload means no waiting, no file size limit from a server and no copy of your video stored anywhere else.

If a file will not open, your browser does not support its codec. MP4 files using H.264 play in every major browser. To post the video itself, upload the original file to Pinterest as a video pin, or build a slideshow with the video pin maker.

    Reel Frame to Pin FAQ

Can I paste an Instagram or TikTok link?

No. Those sites do not let other pages read their videos, so this tool works from a video file on your device. Use the file you exported from your editing app, or download your own post from the app first.

    Is my video uploaded?

No. The video plays in your browser from your own device and frames are captured locally. Nothing is sent to a server.

Why will my video not open?

Your browser cannot decode that file format. Export or convert it to MP4 with H.264 video, which plays in Chrome, Safari, Firefox and Edge.

What resolution are the grabbed frames?

Frames are copied at the video's own resolution, so a 1080 × 1920 Reel gives 1080 × 1920 frames. The pin is then exported at 1000 × 1500.

How many frames can I use in a collage?

Up to six. Two to four frames read best at the size pins appear in the feed.
