How to use the Pin SEO Score Checker

    1. 1

      Choose one target keyword

Pick the phrase you want the pin to be found for, for example "fall porch decor". Type what your audience would type into Pinterest search, in their words.

    2. 2

      Paste your pin text

Add the pin title, description, the board you will save it to, the alt text and the destination link. Leave a field empty if you have not written it yet.

    3. 3

      Work through the fixes

The score updates as you type. Start with the fixes at the top of the list, which are worth the most points, and stop once the text reads naturally. Never stuff keywords to chase 100.

Pinterest works like a search engine. When someone searches for "easy meal prep" or "small bathroom ideas", Pinterest looks at the words in your pin title, description, board name and alt text, along with the image, to decide whether your pin is a good match. A pin with a clear keyword in the right places has a better chance of being shown for that search.

This checker scores the text parts of a pin against one target keyword. It checks length, whether the keyword appears in each field, whether it appears early, whether the board name supports the topic and whether the link is valid. The score is a checklist, not a ranking prediction: it tells you whether the basics are in place so the image and the content can do the rest.

    What the score checks

Title (30 points): a length that fits Pinterest's 100 character limit, the keyword present, and the keyword near the start. Description (35 points): a useful length, the keyword present and in the opening words, and no keyword stuffing. Board name (10 points): the board is named for the topic. Alt text (15 points): a real description of the image that mentions the topic. Link (10 points): a valid https address.

Matching is forgiving. If every word of the keyword appears but not as an exact phrase, the field gets partial credit. Check lengths in detail with the Pinterest character counter.

    Write for people first

A pin that reads like a list of keywords tends to put people off, and saves and clicks are what keep a pin in circulation. Write the title as a promise ("15 Easy Fall Porch Ideas on a Budget"), then use the description to say what the reader gets and why it helps, using the keyword and one or two related phrases naturally.

If you are stuck for wording, the title generator, description generator and alt text generator give you drafts to edit.

    Pin SEO Score Checker FAQ

How do I do SEO for a Pinterest pin?

Pick one keyword people search for, put it near the start of the pin title, use it naturally in the first sentence of the description, save the pin to a board named for that topic, add descriptive alt text and link to a page that matches the promise.

    Do hashtags help Pinterest SEO?

Pinterest has moved away from hashtags as a discovery tool, and plain keywords in the title and description matter more. A couple of hashtags will not hurt, but do not replace natural sentences with them.

How long should a Pinterest description be?

Pinterest allows up to 500 characters. Aim for at least a couple of full sentences so there is room for the keyword and context, and put the most important words first because only the start may show in some views.

Does the board name affect pin SEO?

Yes. The board gives Pinterest context about what the pin is about. A board called "Fall Porch Decor" sends a clearer signal than one called "Stuff I Love".

Does a score of 100 guarantee my pin will rank?

No. The score only checks that your text basics are in place. Ranking also depends on the image, how people engage with it, the quality of your site and competition for the keyword.

Is my pin text sent anywhere?

No. All checks run in your browser and nothing you type is uploaded.
