How to use the Seasonal Pin Planner

      1. 1

        Pick a holiday or season

Choose from the list, or tap any row in the table of upcoming dates. The planner always uses the next time that date comes around, so after Christmas it moves to next year.

      2. 2

        Check the lead time

The suggested lead time is 90 days for big planning holidays like Christmas and 45 to 60 days for smaller ones. If your audience plans early, such as wedding or craft makers, choose a longer lead.

      3. 3

Put the dates in your calendar

Note the day to finish creating pins, the day to start publishing and the final three weeks. Download the reminders as a calendar file so they show up in Google Calendar, Apple Calendar or Outlook.

Seasonal pins need a head start. People plan holidays weeks or months ahead, saving gift guides, recipes and decor ideas long before the day, and new pins usually take a while to be shown widely. If you publish your Christmas pins in mid-December, most of the planning season has already passed.

This planner works out the next date of 35 holidays and seasons, including moving ones such as Easter, Mother's Day and Thanksgiving, and counts back to a suggested start date. Big planning and shopping dates get a 90 day lead, smaller ones 45 to 60 days, and you can change the lead time to fit your niche. Every date is calculated in your browser for the coming year.

When to start pinning for Christmas

A common rule of thumb is to start publishing Christmas pins 60 to 90 days ahead, which puts the start in late September or early October. That gives new pins time to be picked up before the busiest planning weeks in November and December. Gift guides and DIY projects benefit most from the early start, because people need time to buy or make things.

Keep pinning through the final three weeks, when last-minute planners are searching for quick ideas, recipes and gifts that arrive on time. After the day, stop scheduling new holiday pins and move on to the next season; your Christmas pins can resurface next year.

Planning a whole year of seasonal content

The table lists every holiday in date order with the day you should start pinning for it, so you can see which seasons overlap. In autumn, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Black Friday and Christmas all run at once, which is why many creators prepare holiday pins in late summer.

Turn the dates into a weekly plan with the Pinterest content calendar template, and make several designs per holiday post with the pin variations generator.

      Seasonal Pin Planner FAQ

When should I start pinning for Christmas?

Aim to start publishing Christmas pins 60 to 90 days before December 25, so late September to early October. Finish designing them a couple of weeks before that so you can schedule them steadily.

How far in advance should I pin seasonal content?

About 45 days ahead works for smaller dates such as Earth Day or Cinco de Mayo. For big planning and shopping holidays such as Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, Easter and back to school, start 60 to 90 days ahead.

When should I pin for Halloween?

Start in early August, about 90 days before October 31. Costume and party ideas get planned early, and starting in August gives your pins time to be distributed before October.

How is the date of Easter worked out?

Easter is the first Sunday after the first full moon on or after March 21, using the church calculation. The planner computes it with the standard Gregorian formula, and dates such as Good Friday and Mardi Gras are counted from it.

Should I delete seasonal pins after the holiday?

No. Seasonal pins often come back the following year when people search again. Leave them up, and add a few fresh designs each season instead of deleting old ones.

Why are the season start dates marked as approximate?

The first days of spring, summer, fall and winter follow the equinoxes and solstices, which move by a day or so each year. Back to school also varies by region. For planning, being a day off makes no difference.
